"The moment we realise our actual state of being, we experience ourselves anew."
About mette maja mouritsen
I have worked as a doctor for 31 years, including 15 years as a general practitioner.
I have chosen to waive my authorisation in order to work and speak freely about life and health without feeling restricted by the Danish Health Authority.
In addition, I am a trained psychotherapist, mindfulness instructor and acupuncturist, and I am the author of several books about body, mind and consciousness.

When I worked as a general practitioner, I met many patients with existential problems, which I was not equipped to handle with my medical knowledge, it stressed me. In 2006, I therefore began practicing mindfulness, and a few years later I started a psychotherapeutic education. Both of it made me turn the attention inward. At the same time, I began facilitating mindfulness groups with patients after work hours. These people were of different ages, genders and illnesses. The changes and healing processes that occurred in these people had a great impact on my identity as a doctor, since I could not define my role as a doctor in the way I used to. At the same time, I asked myself questions like: "Who am I?"
A kind of identity crisis arose, which contributed to my experiencing a significant shift in consciousness in 2010. An experience of everything being connected, accompanied by an intense feeling of love. This experience changed my life and way of looking at life completely.
A new personal journey took shape, where I sold my medical practice and began writing books about the connectedness of body, mind and consciousness. I became aware that we are much more than our bodies, we are also the consciousness that observes the body, emotions, thoughts and our behavior.
Along the way, it became clear to me that the great unexpected feeling of love and connectedness I experienced in 2010 was a "fragrance" of something that is beyond the reach of words to describe.
With this realisation, my life continues with ups and downs. The difference is, that it has become much easier to accept and pass on. It gives a great freedom and above all an inner peace and quiet joy.
Now I live life based on what my body calls for in terms of nature experiences, exercise, food, meditation, contemplation, silence, creativity, music, singing and appropriate amounts of work and sociability.
It is so obvious to me that there are many ways to well-being. I convey this through lectures, podcasts, workshops, books, blogs, etc. Well-being is mostly conditioned by something external which always comes and goes.
Inner peace and freedom arise when we can remain in peace of mind, no matter what life offers us, and in the realisation of our oneness with all and everything.
I love to strengthening our faith and trust in life including our own ways to well-being and physical healing. It arises along with our longing for inner peace and freedom.
VOLUNTEER WORK: I am a volunteer counselor at the children's hotline under Børns Vilkår.
